Producing and Composing Music - The House Generation

The electronic revolution launched at the turn of the 80's introduced an ever increasing number of studio components to fit the more modest budget range. Many of the products available were initially aimed at the established production houses and serious musicians. Sequencers, computer controlled drum and bass machines were dismissed as toys.

During the early 80's, Disco was forced underground and it was at the hands of then unknown selective club DJ's who began to experiment with such devices as the TB303, TR808 and TR909. The patterns they made were recorded down onto analogue multi-track  studio tape.

Early House music records were invariably sparse and simplistic, this was due to the majority of media created was made by non-musicians with access to perhaps to 8 or at a push 16 track recording systems.

Several pioneer recordings in the 'House' movement never transposed to vinyl; copies were often distributed on cassette tape. One of the most infamous tracks to circulate this way was the legendary 'Your Love', written and performed by Jamie Principle from Chicago.
