Club DJ vs Mobile DJ

Warning - this post contains a DJ rant

With the introduction of digital media devices and low cost equipment there has been a flood of people into the industry.

The side effect of this has been a host of inexperienced, untrained and frankly poor quality persons advertising their services across the web and in local publications.

Whilst I'm all for the would be entrepeneur making a concerted and calculated effort to becoming the next Axwell or Oakenfold, there has to be some steps in place within the industry to prevent those without the experience or knowledge from setting up a bad vibe concerning the mobile and the club DJ.

Thankfully on the mobile front many venues are beginning to insist that DJ's have PAT inspected equipment and at least a sufficient amount of public liability cover. This alone will disuade the more frivalous bedroom mixer from leaping in and undercutting the experienced professional.

The current economic climate has forced many venue owners to look for calculated means of cutting costs, the most obvious is to find the best bargain for their entertainment. As many people will remark, 'cheaper is most certainly not always better.' It pays dividends to spend time interviewing a potential DJ to find out as much as you can and how they are going to behave around your guests and staff.

Whilst DJaying is immense fun, it is also fairly intense; no matter what the occasion, the DJ has a responsibilty to please and entertain the guests and to make his or her best effort to ensure that they get a bumping experience.

A club DJ may be employed to play a certain style, but they still have the same responsibility to keep people happy within that genre; poor manners are never to be excused no matter who you are or how long you've been playing with records.
